Chiropractic is a system of therapy based upon the belief that the human nervous system coordinates all the body’s functions and that disease results from a lack of normal nerve function. A minimum of two years of college is required for entrance into one of the sixteen colleges in the United States that have a program of study in chiropractic. Some chiropractic schools encourage prospective students to have as many as ninety hours of undergraduate course work. Successful completion of one-year courses in biology, chemistry, organic chemistry, physics and English as well as courses in psychology, social science and humanities are required by nearly all chiropractic schools. Factors considered for admission to chiropractic schools generally involve overall grade point average and science grade point average, credit earned, letters of recommendation and personal profile essays.
