We are proud to announce the creation of the Triton Jazz Festival! The inaugural festival will be held in Decker Auditorium on the Iowa Central Community College campus on Friday January 17, 2014. Area high school jazz band directors, we invite you and your students to take part in this educational opportunity.
Each participating band will be allowed a performance on stage of Decker Auditorium to an adjudication panel of 3 jazz educators. Following each performance, bands will receive a clinic from an educator. Bands will perform in IHSMA class order, with anticipated awards during short ceremonies given after 1A/2A bands in the morning and 3A/4A bands in the afternoon. Place awards will be given to the top 3 schools in each class, with remaining rankings not being made public.
Required and related forms are all available on the festival website. For traveling schools, we will also have meals available to purchase in our NEW campus cafeteria for a nominal fee. We hope you will encourage your students to listen to the performances of other schools.
Several directors have expressed to us the desire for a festival in our area of the state, as well as a festival that provides feedback to bands before IHSMA state contest. We welcome your band to our campus, to our festival and are confident it will meet these needs. If you are interest in participating, or have any questions, please reach out to Jeremy Smith, Director of Athletic Bands at firstname.lastname@example.org or at 515-574-1207.
Festival information can be found at http://www.iowacentral.edu/performing_arts/music/triton_jazz_festival.asp . The festival performances in Decker Auditorium are open to the public free of charge.
