Fort Dodge - Iowa Central hosted Diva Tech Camp for high school girls June 11, 12, and 13. We have hosted a middle school camp every summer since 2005, but this was the first time it has been offered for the high school age group. There were 13 girls in attendance, most of whom attended Diva Tech Camp when they were in middle school. It was great to see the girls again and meet some new “divas.” The girls talked about the different careers they are considering, and it was great to hear that some are planning on non-traditional careers they have explored at Diva Tech Camp.
Neale Adams, Dean of the Departments of Business and Industrial Technology, applied for a non-traditional Perkins grant to help fund the camp. When the girls finish their last year of middle school camp, they always ask if they can come back for a high school camp, so we decided to expand on what we’ve offered in the past and host a HS camp this year. Projects and experiences in the various shops and labs were different than what we do at the middle school camp, and the girls all gave a big thumbs up, and are looking forward to coming again next year.
Thanks to all the instructors who organized a session, and a big thanks to the girls who attended! Coming soon will be camp pictures on the Iowa Central Facebook page. Check it out!
